Role Overview
BDR Solutions, LLC is seeking an experienced MuleSoft Engineer with expertise in MuleSoft API development to join our growing team. This position focuses on designing, developing, and managing data pipelines that seamlessly move data within a multi-faceted solution, with an emphasis on healthcare data, particularly FHIR and HL7 standards. The ideal candidate will have experience working with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform to build and manage APIs, ensuring seamless interoperability between systems. Experience with cloud environments such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and AWS GovCloud is highly preferred. Experience with the Defense Health Agency (DHA) is also strongly desired.
The position is 100% remote but requires availability during EST business hours. This position requires US Citizenship with a Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and manage end-to-end data pipelines, ensuring efficient and secure data flow between systems. Focus on the integration of healthcare data, including FHIR and HL7 standards.
- Develop and implement MuleSoft APIs for seamless data integration, using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, API Gateway, and RAML.
- Design and maintain RESTful and SOAP APIs that integrate with healthcare applications and other enterprise systems.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate various data sources and systems, ensuring seamless interoperability between different healthcare applications and platforms.
- Utilize cloud platforms, including GCP and AWS GovCloud, to deploy, manage, and scale integration solutions. Ensure that all deployments meet security, compliance, and performance standards, particularly in government cloud environments.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, helping them understand the complexities of healthcare data integration, API development, and cloud deployments.
- Collaborate with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to gather requirements, design solutions, and implement data integration strategies that align with business needs and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure that all data integrations comply with relevant healthcare standards (e.g., FHIR, HL7) and maintain data integrity, privacy, and security throughout the pipeline.
- Monitor and optimize the performance of APIs and integration processes, identifying and resolving bottlenecks to ensure timely and accurate data flow.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of API specifications, data integration processes, configurations, and workflows. Provide regular updates and reports on project status, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in data integration, software engineering, or API development, with a focus on orchestrating data pipelines and system integration.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, including API development, Mule flows, DataWeave transformations, and API security best practices.
- Experience with FHIR and HL7 standards for healthcare data integration.
- Experience working with the Defense Health Agency (DHA) or on DHA-related projects is strongly preferred.
- Strong background in cloud environments, particularly GCP and AWS GovCloud, with experience in deploying and managing data integration solutions.
- Proficiency in MuleSoft, Python, Java, SQL, REST APIs, UNIX commands, and Apache NiFi.
- Proven experience implementing API security protocols, including OAuth 2.0, JWT, and mutual TLS.
- Active CompTIA Security+ certification.
- Active Secret clearance preferred, or the ability to obtain one.
- Experience with ForgeRock is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, IT, Healthcare, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- MuleSoft Certified Developer – Level 1 (Mule 4) or higher certification is highly preferred.
- Experience with API governance and lifecycle management.
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare data standards, including FHIR and HL7, and experience with related data integration challenges.
- Extensive experience with GCP, AWS GovCloud, and the deployment of data integration solutions in cloud environments.
- Experience working in an Agile development environment, with familiarity with tools like JIRA for project tracking and management.
- Understanding of healthcare data privacy and security regulations, and experience ensuring compliance in data integration processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address issues in complex data integration projects.
- Experience with AI analytics and tools is a plus.
